sincere question here...

is the use of the copyrighted images here on this page, e.g., the willie nelson one or the pope one, legal? did you obtain those copyrights?

if not, are you in violation of them?

I know this is a common practice, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what's right.

thanks for your time!

I am not a lawyer so my words have no legal foundation but I read quite a bit.

There is a "doctrine of fair use" in copyright law. Also public figures, are in fact public and their images are subject to fair use. If I personally profit from the use of the images of the pope, then there may be copyright issues. As it is, I am merely pointing to an image of the pope and Willie and making political commentary and is protected under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

If you hear from a lawyer, please post it here. Further, if you're a lawyer, you could enlighten us on case law so we may all understand.

Thanks for visiting.
