After two rounds of tying for first place, the combined mashup team of Frozen Bear and GoodStorm MeCommerce™ conceded the top prize after David Berlind called for an Iowa-style caucus to determine the winner of the Speed Geeking contest held at Mashup Camp 2. An Iowa-style caucus calls for people to physically move to their candidate’s side in a room. A very tight polling of people gave the best mashup crown to WeatherBonk.
Taking second place was by no means a defeat for our team as we took home a super sleek black MacBook. Greg Lin and Jeff Marshall, GoodStorm’s Co-Directors of Innovation matter-of-factly and proudly declared that win provides another way to do further compatibility testing of MeCommerce™ on the Mac’s Safari browser platform.
Mashup Camp 2 was a great experience for GoodStorm’s MeCommerce™ team. We were able to show the application over 300 of the top mashup developers in the world including a large contingent of observers, analysts and venture capitalists. I was also the perfect platform to learn the most current trends in rapid application development and mashup techniques.
Finally for a conference that bills itself as one that has no preparations, it was the most organized and civilized one that I have even been to. The Computer History Museum in Mountain View was a superb facility. The food was outstanding. The organizers David Berlind and Doug Gold were masters of event organization. The event world has a lot to learn from the unconference system that MashUp Camp has pioneered.
We are definitely going to MashUp Camp 3 that may be held in Boston in the fall.
